Protecting the place where childhood happens.

Safety, Security, & Clubhouse Renewal

Every year, more than 1,300 Nantucket youth walk through our doors. This effort ensures they can learn, play, and grow in a space designed with their safety at the center.

THE REASON

Evolving to meet the moment

The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club is one of the most consistently used youth spaces on the island. Every day after school, hundreds of children and teens rely on the Club for structure, support, and a place to belong.

As our programs and membership have grown, so has the gap between how the space was built and what our Club kids need today.

The Club operates as a highly active, shared space, with hundreds of youth moving through multiple programs each afternoon. Managing that level of activity requires systems that support clear visibility, controlled access, and intentional flow throughout the building.

While our staff maintain strong supervision and structure, the current layout limits how effectively those systems can function at scale.

This project strengthens that foundation by enhancing entry points, improving sightlines, and creating clearer separation between public and program areas, ensuring we can continue to support every child in a space designed for how the Club operates today.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • 1. Controlled Building Entry & Security

This project secures the Club’s primary exterior doors and redefines how members and visitors enter and move through the building. New vestibules, a centralized control point, and a separate gym entrance will create clear, monitored pathways for both daily programming and public events.

Upgraded access control systems and cameras will further support staff in maintaining visibility while ensuring a smooth and welcoming flow during high traffic hours.

  • 2. Program Space Conversion

Former locker rooms will be repurposed into flexible, supervised program spaces that better reflect how the Club operates today. These areas will support a range of uses, including small group programming and early learning, while maintaining clear visibility for staff.

  • Restroom Modernization

Existing restrooms will be reconfigured into single use facilities that improve privacy, accessibility, and supervision. Updated layouts and fixtures will better support the daily needs of members and staff while aligning with current standards.

  • 4. Safety Equipment Upgrades

The project includes upgraded cameras, improved access control systems, and additional infrastructure that strengthens overall building safety. These enhancements ensure the Club is equipped to support its growing membership with modern, reliable systems.

Help Shape the Future of the Club

This project is not a concept. It is already in motion.

With early support secured, initial planning and design work are underway. We are now building a group of committed partners to carry this effort forward and bring the full vision to life.

Every investment accelerates that progress and ensures the Club can continue to meet the needs of Nantucket youth today and into the future.
